We get to Camp Reinberg, in Palatine at 1:00pm CDT. The campsites here have electric and sewer, but no water. We stop in front of the office, pull out their long hose and fill the water tank until it starts overflowing. Then we back into our site.
Camp Reinberg is located between my mom’s and two sisters’ homes. We reserved the site in February for 7 nights at $360. Friday and Saturday are $60 and the rest are $45 for non-residents.
Mark picks us up and drives us to Mom’s. Judith, Diana and Ken come and we go out to dinner at Half Day Brewing Company, in Lincolnshire. We ask to sit outside, but they tell us they can’t put tables together to seat 7 people. The food and beer are pretty good, but Mom’s martini and the service are not that great. We go back to Mom’s for dessert and coffee and try to plan the week’s activities.
Day 1
We get up and ride our bikes to the grocery store. There are nice bike trails around here and one take us right to the intersection of a Jewel Foods. We tie a bin and cooler to the bike with bungee cords to take groceries home.
We think about going to a nearby winery for a tour, but the reviews are terrible. Instead, everybody comes to the campground for cocktails and appetizers, then we go to dinner at Biaggi’s in Deer Park. The same seven people from last night, plus Allison, Krystian, Linnea, and Josh come. Food, drinks and service are very good. We go to Mom’s for coffee and dessert.
Day 2
Judith picks us up and then we go to Mom’s and get Mom, Diana and Linnea. We go to the Chicago Botanic Garden. We walk through some of the gardens and have lunch in the cafeteria. We also go through the train garden and the butterfly garden.
We go to Hackney’s for dinner. Hackney’s is a Chicago tradition. I remember going there as a kid and we go there when we are in the area. We usually go to the Lake Zurich Hackney’s but it is permanently closed. We go to the Hackney’s on Harms Road because it has an outdoor patio. Ken and Mark join us there. Food, drinks, and service is great, as usual. We go back to Mom’s for coffee and dessert.
Day 3
Today is the 4th of July. Mark picks us up and drives us to their house. We do laundry and work on the family tree. Then we pick up Mom and go to Diana and Ken’s. They serve a wonderful dinner.

Day 4
Our water tank is on E. The black and gray water tanks are not full but we decide to empty them before we move the RV to get water. I attach the hose to the sewer and then to the RV. When I open the black water valve, the hose comes off and black water spills out before I can close the valve and reattach the hose. There is no water spigot at the site, so we clean it up the best we can with paper towels, buckets of water and Clorox wipes.
We finish dumping, and drive the RV to where we can get water. Diana picks us up and we meet Mom and Judith at the movie theater. We see Baby Driver. We all like the movie.
After the movie we go back to Mom’s, and then meet Mark and Ken at Lou Malnati’s. Chicago deep dish pizza is another item we must have each trip. We go back to Mom’s for coffee and dessert.
Day 5
Another thing we must do in Chicago is have a Chicago style hot-dog. The place we used to go to is permanently closed, so we go to Portillo’s in Vernon Hills. The hot-dogs are great.
After lunch we go bowling. No one is very good but we have fun.
We go to Olive Garden for dinner and back to Mom’s for coffee and dessert.
Day 6
When we were at Diana and Ken’s, Ken showed us a toy we think would be fun at the beach. It is called an ArrowCopter. You shoot it up with a rubber-band and it spins down like a helicopter. We ride our bikes to Hobby Lobby to buy some for the beach. They are sold out. We also go to Jewel and buy groceries.
Diana and Ken pick us up and we go to Arlington Park race track. Mark and Judith and Mom meet us there. Trevor, Linnea, Josh, Colin, Allison and Bonnie also meet us there. Afterwards, we go to Judith and Mark’s for dinner.
Day 7
We leave the campground at 8:00. It has been a fun week. Our annual “Beach Week” is one week away and we need to get to North Carolina several days before that to get ready.
