Apparent Wind Calculator

This calculator calculates apparent wind speed and angle when true wind speed, true wind direction, boat speed and boat heading are known.

To use Apparent Wind Calculator:

Enter True Wind Speed in knots.
Enter True Wind Direction in degrees.
Enter Boat Speed in knots.

This is the speed over ground (SOG) as shown on a GPS.
Enter Boat Heading in degrees.
Press Calculate Apparent Wind button (or press enter). Apparent Wind Speed and Apparent Wind Angle are displayed. Speed is in knots and angle is in relative degrees, for a starboard tack.
